NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg Appoints Stephen Goldsmith as Deputy Mayor
Former chair of the Corporation for National and Community Service and former Indianapolis mayor Stephen Goldsmith was appointed New York City’s Deputy Mayor for Operations last month. With extensive experience both in government and social innovation, Goldsmith has been in the news recently for the publication of his latest book, The Power of Social Innovation: How Civic Entrepreneurs Ignite Community Networks for Good.
As mayor of Indianapolis, "Goldsmith spearheaded a major expansion of public-private partnerships". With Mayor Bloomberg’s track record of enabling innovation to address common city-wide problems, and with New York City as the home of Cities of Service (and the first to appoint a Chief Service Officer), Goldsmith will find that opportunities abound to continue his practical reinvention of government.
